…actually, not quite 5 years. In 2005 I joined Carmichael Lynch as a research specialist. Back then social media was a buzz word, Twitter still had the “track” feature and Facebook was just for college kids. Through the years I had the fortune to work with some great people to create some great work. The clients and people at CL are both top notch and will be missed. But this Friday will be my last day at Carmichael Lynch.

Next week I will be packing up my new car (I know, this still shocks some of my family/friends that I have a car) and will be heading South…to Dallas…yes, that’s Dallas, Texas. I know…here I was worried that I was moving to a non-snow state. But they just got 10 inches of snow there last week. So, I guess my new winter coat won’t go to waste after all. See, everything is going to be fine :)

In Dallas, I will be joining Matt Dickman at Fleishman-Hillard as Senior Vice President of Social Strategy. Though the decision to move South was a tough one, the opportunity to work with Matt and Fleishman-Hillard team/client roster was something that I could not pass up.

To my Minneapolis friends and family – you will be missed. Well, the -20 degree weather might not be missed but the art openings, soccer, broomball, board games, Irish pubs, beer tastings and Thanksgiving dinners will be.

Thank all over you for the laughs and great times over the last 5 years.

If you are ever in Dallas, much sure you stop by and say “howdy”.

Well, I think we are actually headed into a really interesting time in the space that I work and like to spend time thinking about – some sort of digital marketing something. Think it is a good time to be writing again.

I’ve also decided to blog everyday for a year. 365 posts. I’ve needed a fun challenge for awhile now. To help supply material, things I find interesting I’m tumblring.

I love my homemade fishsticks…so good, so tasty. So this is my blog. I know, long time, no blog. If you look back on my posts…you’ll see that general theme. Life gets in the way, unless you make a blogging schedule. Which I plan to do. And because I plan to blog more, this blog is going to be just about whatever I want. I’ll admit, I once that I was going to be a cool kid social media blogger of all things social media awesome. But, let’s be honest, there is enough of that on the internets as it is.

This blog is going to have stuff about me (for my family), stuff about my work (because I do dig the internets/digital world/social media land), and whatever else I chose.

So, come along for the ride or just stop by and enjoy the lemonade in the shade everyone now and then – you’re always welcome.

Alright, two things. I’ve got to get www.sawyerbeef.com up and going better than it is. I feel like it is important to practice what you preach. That is my family’s beef selling website. And it has a Facebook fanpage. And a twitter account. But besides having all that, you know what I think is important for people in my field? To get out there and try to sell something – for real. Like, seriously stand and a farmer’s market and hawk your wares (which I might add…the beef is excellent, I highly recommend you try some). But I think lots of us in the internets/digital/social media field (and advertising for that matter) loose site of what it means to really sell/connect with consumers. So yeah, I’ve got to get Sawyer Beef off the ground.

FYI – along the lines of practicing what I preach I recently have become a community social media manager for an art gallery. My friends with the gallery mean a great deal to me, so I want this to succeed as well. So, add Rosalux Gallery twitter and then go to there site, visit the gallery and buy some art already. If you don’t like the art, buy it and give it to me :)

Oh, and have you see me here yet? Hi Mom!

Ok, I got what I deserved. I was trying to show off a bit…some clever onion cutting skills to some friends I had over for dinner last night and boom, there went a chunk of finger. I just shake my head because it was totally my fault. Not paying attention. It was my index finger (as highlighted in the pic)

So it has made typing interesting at the very least. And yes mother, I could have gone to the hospital…but I didn’t really see the point. The chunk of finger was gone. There was nothing they could really “stich” back together. And I had dinner guests showing up. I mean, 3 hours in the emergency room for fancy band aids vs. a nice Rioja I had just opened? I think we all would agree I made the right decision.

The blog has been a bit messy lately. I have smiplified things. Matt Dickman was passing through Minneapolis earlier this week and we both shared similar eye rolling to certain areas of social media land. In doing so, I realized that while yes, my blog is my new resume – my blog is also me. Moving forward, this is going to be a mix bag of thinking+life.

The 29 Days Project is a blog I created to try and do or post something interesting everyday for the month of February. I’m mainly focusing myself on doing/trying new things that I’ve never done before in the twin cities. I did this for two reasons 1) force me to get out there during the main winter blues month 2) see more of the city I live in.

So, check it out for a bit of my personal life.

I know, I promised myself I’d get better at blogging. But behaviors are hard to change. Still, I’m going to try to focus one post a week from here on out. Today might be a two, three post day. We’ll see.

I have about 30-40 mp3 blogs I try to browse through and I go in music phases..and I’m just starting up a new music phase. I love discovery new music, so I thought I would mention a few of the favorites over the last couple of weeks. You can find most of these songs through the Hype Machine.

Love Astronaut by Murder Mystery : I shouldn’t mention this song…because it describes my current love life a little too articulately. Still, has a nice hook. i guesss i’m floating says “It’s the sort of fresh pop sound that almost gives the instruments a Fantasia-like animation; bass, guitar, and the persistent electronic rhythm chirping back and forth to one another in an outlandish conversation.”

MGMT : This band is mp3-blogosphere hot…for good reason. Anything by them is great. You Aint No Picasso mentions “Anyways, they just put up a new tune called “Weekend Wars” that I haven’t stopped listening to for the past half hour.”

Forever Indebted – Shout Out Out Out : This song has been in replay just a tad too much. Dig it. From Awesome Until Proven Guilty “”Shout out out out out = two drummers + four bass players + two samplers + five synthesizers + five cowbells + two octapads + one vocoder.” Awesomez!”

Misophone : Look, just track down songs from this band. You’ll cook and drink wine and play them in the back ground. It will make you happy and she’ll think your cool with good music taste.

The Optimist – Emma Pollock: Erie..calming…warm blanket…I would date her. The layers of darkness really give way to a positive message. Daily Growl says “What you will find is an album to warm the soul, and which will bring fresh understated pleasure with every listen.”

We Are Gods! We Are Wolves! – Le Loup: All I do is listen to this song. Instrumental Analysis says “One of the most interesting albums to grace your ears in a long time, this release is good all the way through.”

So besides music, I’ve really started to get into taking pictures. I’m currently fascinated at horizon views of distance…or something, whatever. Basically, I like taking pictures that ask the viewer to look deep into the picture. Yes, I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m working on articulating my photography…bare with me. But I like this pic. I know, B&W…I’m artsy. (click link for better effect?)

Other than that…

likemind.min is this Friday.

And I’m working on two secret projects of my own accord. I have no idea if they are actually going to work, but I need to start doing something more than just career stuff. Teaser – hopefully I’ll be on a tv dial/youtube soon.
